MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Assisting with receiving, dealing with and prioritising meeting requests from both internal and external stakeholders in consultation with the EA/HC and PA/DHC.

Liaising with the visa section on visa requests from external contacts and keeping visa log up to date

Diplomatic Bags and customs clearance:

Overseeing the sending and receiving of UK and Lagos diplomatic bag.

Assisting with the sorting and distributing UK diplomatic bag.

Arranging clearance paperwork for diplomatic bags.

Political Section and General Support:

Providing general support to Political team.

Drafting official Note Verbal’s to Government Institutions.

Assist with setting up calls, meetings and events as required by Political Section.

Booking of transport for Deputy High Commissioner and Political Section.

Administrative support for inward visits to Nigeria

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will need to be flexible and able to work unsupervised to keep on top of the workload and changing priorities.

Good interpersonal skills will be essential as the jobholder will need to build close and effective working relationships with colleagues from across the High Commission, the FCO, and with Nigerian officials.

Previous office experience with good organisation skills.

Strong IT (including good working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets, outlook etc).

The ability to speak and write in clear, correct, jargon-free English.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EVALUATIONS
Requirements:

Experience: Four (4) years experience in janitorial services, which includes two (2) years of supervisory experience is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Must be familiar with the theories and practices of janitorial services.

Must have knowledge of cleaning, supplies, applications, procedures and equipment.

Must be familiar with the safe handling and application of cleaning products, tools and equipment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of Secondary School or high school education is required.

Evaluations:

Language:

RIVERS SENATOR INDICTS GOV WIKE OVER MILITARISED ELECTION


Gov Wike

The All Progressives Congress member representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Andrew Uchendu, has accused the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, of militarising the recent elections in the state.

He said the Nigerian Army was innocent contrary to Wike’s claims.

Uchendu stated this in Abuja on Thursday during an interview with journalists on the crisis over the yet to be concluded  governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state.

He alleged that Wike’s armed thugs in military uniforms carried out most of the killings and violent acts that took place in the state during the elections.

He said, “Governor Wike on March 9, when the governorship election held, stormed Obio-Akpor Local Government Collation Centre with over 200 armed thugs.

“They shot an Army captain, by name Salami, to death and injured many others, all in the process of falsifying already collated results from the ward levels.”

He alleged further that Wike worked with the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Obo Effanga, to manipulate the election results in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“All the narratives out there including the one said by Senator Dino Melaye ( PDP Kogi West), on the floor of the Senate on alleged militarisation of the last general elections in Rivers State, were nothing but falsehood sponsored by Governor Wike,” he added.

KANO ELECTIONS 2019: CP WAKILI POLITICALLY PARTIAL – GOV GANDUJE


Gov Ganduje

Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has accused the Commissioner of Police Muhammed Wakili for being politically partial.

Governor Ganduje slammed the Commissioner in an interview with BBC Hausa Service.

“I didn’t know him before now but the way he does his job is questionable. He has taken and favoured a particular political side, which is uncalled for and translates to mishandling his job”

Ganduje added that the Commissioner has no constitutional right to arrest either the governor or his deputy as he did “which is an indication of lack of professionalism from the side of the Commissioner”

On March 11, the Nigeria Police in Kano arrested the Deputy Governor, Nasiru Gawuna, and the State Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Sule Garo, over alleged threat to public peace.

The deputy governor enjoys immunity from arrest, according to the Nigerian constitution.

The Police later clarified that the deputy governor was saved from being manhandled by supporters of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party candidate, at the collation centre.

CONTEXT:
In light of the emerging crisis, the scale of IOM’s response in Nigeria is growing exponentially. It is therefore crucial to recruit a Public Information Officer whose role will be to prepare timely and professional presentation of communications outputs to the media and public on IOM’s work in Nigeria.

Working under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission, in close coordination with the Senior Programme Coordinator, and in collaboration with the Head of the Media and Communications Unit in Geneva, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of public information (PI) strategies.

Core Functions / Responsibilities
Contribute to the Mission’s day-to-day communications plan and websites operation. Draft, update, maintain, and disseminate news and information, web content, and social media updates.

Contribute towards the coordination of the Mission’s PI activities with IOM Headquarters to optimize outreach.

Produce content for international audiences in the form of human interest stories from the field, photographs, videos, clips, and migration stories.

Coordinate the collection of PI assets including photos and stories from the field to be used in a comprehensive PI strategy for the Mission.

Contribute to the inclusion of appropriate gender awareness in IOM Nigeria communications.
Organize and conduct PI training for IOM Nigeria staff and build internal PI capacity.

Travel to the field to collect photographs, videos, and stories that highlight IOM Nigeria’s presence and emergency response.
Participate in key mission events and workshops as needed.

Assist in preparing and editing news releases, briefing notes, media talking points, and other informational materials.

Generate timely and engaging social media content including text, photos, and other media for use across a range of integrated online platforms.

Provide support and assistance in coordinating communications with community (CwC) activities when and if needed.

Monitor adequate communications with crisis-affected populations and provide inputs on integration of CwC into the work of IOM.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:
Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, International Affairs, Development Studies or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience:
Experience in the related field, particularly writing and editing, international journalism and public information; preferably in African region; Previous experience writing and reporting in international and crisis contexts;

Preferably within the United Nations Common System and the International Humanitarian Field;

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

FG TO NEGOTIATE WITH SENIOR CIVIL SERVANTS ON NEW MINIMUM WAGE - SEN. UDOMA


The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udoma, said the Federal Government would go into negotiations with senior civil servants soon after the bill on the new National Minimum Wage is assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Udoma said this when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Finance on Tuesday in Abuja to give explanations on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Paper.

He said the Executive would meet with relevant stakeholders on the matter as soon as it is signed into law.

“Once we announce the minimum wage, we now enter into negotiations with those who are above the minimum wage.

“So, we have to be prepared for that. We will be meeting with the finance committee on how best this minimum wage will be addressed both from the federal and the state governments.

“This is to ensure that the whole government apparatus is not just to pay salaries. It is important we are able to pay the minimum wage and still have enough resources to do infrastructure, health, agriculture and others,” he said.

The minister stressed that once the minimum wage becomes law, serious emphasis would be laid on productivity.

“As a result of agitation from the unions, the President set up a tripartite committee to look at the minimum wage. It is expected that every five years a review is done.

“We know that the N18,000 is too low and it will be difficult to manage with 18,000 and the president supported the review. It is, however, important that as we are reviewing it, we make sure that we can fund it.
“That is why we set up a committee.

So, we will be coming to you as there may be some changes to make sure we can fund the minimum wage,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Senate and House of Representatives have approved N30,000 as the new national minimum wage.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has claimed that the enemies of the state were struggling to stop the collation and declaration of the governorship election in the State.

According to Wike, the police was now inviting Electoral and Collation Officers to intimidate them over collated results in the governorship election.

Wike spoke during a solidarity visit to his office at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus and other members of the party’s National Working Committee.

Wike said, “The Police is trying to intimidate Collation and Electoral Officers by inviting them for one offence or the other so as to impinge on the Collation Process.

“Imagine where the police is inviting the entire Returning Officers and Entire Electoral Officers because allegations have been made against the INEC officials. This is just to let the entire world see what we are talking about “.

The Governor said that the enemies of the state have continued to roll out strategies to destroy the governorship election collation process.

“They go by this strategy, if it fails, they go by the other strategy. They brought the Army, it failed. They have gone to the court and now they want to use the police.”

Governor Wike said that the good people of Rivers State will overcome all the challenges thrown at the state by the system.

“Like I said, this victory will be the best. It will be the sweetest amongst all the states. That is what I see coming. There is no election that will be held in this state and another party will win.

“Not to talk about a party that is not on ground. They have failed and that is the truth of the matter”, he said.

Governor Wike said the political situation in Rivers State has exposed the negative aspects of the system.

“In the end, PDP will emerge victorious in this State. It is a victory that can be delayed, but not denied.

“This morning, the other political party went to court to stop Collation. As God will have it, the court did not grant them their request.

“You see how funny it is. The candidate of AAC said he won the election. The same candidate has gone to court to stop Collation and seek for the cancellation of an election, he claimed that he won”, he said.

GOV GANDUJE LOSES KANO TO KWANKWASO’S SON-IN-LAW AFTER FINAL RESULTS OF 44 LGAs

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, has got the highest number of votes from results of the 44 Local Government areas in Kano State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the state, Riskuwa Shehu, had ordered for fresh collation of results from the wards in Nasarawa local government after the local government collation centre was attacked and the main result sheet was torn.

However, Kabir-Yusuf, a son-in-law to ex-governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, won the pending local government which had delayed the final announcement of governorship election result in the state.

After collation of results from 10 wards of the local government last night, PDP scored 54,349, votes while the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 34,297 votes.

Based on the results collated at the state collation centre, the PDP, which had earlier polled 960,004 votes from 43 local governments now has a total of 1,014,353 votes.

The APC which had polled 953,522 votes from 43 local government areas now has 987,819 votes.
